Wahconah Boys Basketball Clinches Tourney Berth
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Noah Bracci led all scorers with 21 points in a 69-55 win for Wahconah over Pittsfield Monday night 69-55.
This was Wahconah’s 10th win of the season clinching it a spot in the Western Mass playoffs.
Tom Burris had 14 points and Connor Washburn added 10.
For Pittsfield (6-8) Tyrell Boire scored 10, and Amin Purry had eight.
With its sights set on post-season play, Wahconah (10-2) only need one more win coming into this game. Wahconah certainly played like it knew what was at stake. The visitors got off to a quick start and never really looked back the rest of the game. Wahconah took a 19-11 lead in the second quarter and even with Brandon Roughley and Luke Steinman in foul trouble it was able to execute the offense and lead at the break, 41-19.
“Second quarter without those two due to fouls I thought we played really good team basketball. We’ll get better, and we are getting better every game so that’s good.” Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said.
The second half was more of the same with Wahconah really controlling the tempo of the game. Pittsfield fought hard to make a couple small runs, but it was too little too late for the Generals. After missing out on post-season play last year, Belcher talked a little bit about how important it is to clinch a spot this year.
“No other goal happens unless this 10th one happens, so it’s a big deal for us,” he said. “We missed it last year. We felt like we were a tournament team last year, and we feel like we have the chemistry to do something special this year. We have different guys contributing every night so we are just hoping to get better every day.”
Wahconah will look to improve as they play Drury next Monday. This will be the second match-up between these two with Wahconah winning the first. Pittsfield will play at home against Longmeadow on Wednesday.
