NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Cianna Gurek scored six of her 10 points in a decisive third quarter Wednesday to lead the South Hadley girls basketball team to a 41-35 win over Drury.

The Tigers outscored the Blue Devils, 20-4, in the third after going to the locker room down, 23-15.

“We couldn’t ask for a better first half,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “The girls were locked in, ran their sets, played defense and worked their tails off. We mentally let the game get to us in the third quarter. Too many turnovers and fouls. They were shooting 1-and-1 in the third.

“We need to put four quarters together to beat a well coached team like South Hadley. Unfortunately we just couldn’t put it together in the third.”

Alyssa Russell scored a game-high 16 points, and Jacinta Felix scored seven for Drury.

The Blue Devils (6-8) face another tough test at home on Monday when they host Springfield International Charter School.
