BELCHERTOWN, Mass. – Chloe LaRoche scored 18 points, and the Belchertown girls basketball team held Drury to eight points in the second half of a 47-30 Orioles win on Wednesday night.

After a slow start, Drury outscored the Orioles, 15-7, in the second quarter to trail by just one, 23-22, at half-time.

But Belchertown stormed out of the gates in the second half, using three third-quarter 3-pointers and seven points from LaRoche to go on ahead, 40-29.

“Just couldn’t put the ball in the hoop in the second half,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “We got looks. I thought we broke their press well. Just couldn’t figure out how to put the ball in the hoop. Belchertown did a good job featuring LeRoche. She’s a tough matchup for us, for most teams probably.

“That being said, they made nine 3s. Every time I felt like we were gonna turn the game around, it felt like they hit a 3. So credit to them for hitting big shots in their gym.”

Jacinta Felix led Drury with 11 points.

The Blue Devils (6-10) go to Pittsfield on Monday.
