SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Maeve Turmel scored 14 points Tuesday to lead the Pope Francis girls basketball team to a 44-39 win over Drury.

“Disappointing loss on the road,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “I need to do a better job getting us prepared for road games. This is the second straight road game where, despite being the bigger team, we allowed the opponent to out-rebound us and beat us to loose balls.

“We got off to a good start but didn’t finish the first quarter well. After that, we let them hang around for most of the game, and ultimately we went cold down the stretch.”

The Cardinals outscored Drury, 24-18, in the second half.

Norah Wood scored eight points, and Ella Bond and Addisyn Shepard each scored seven for Drury.

The Blue Devils (4-3) host Lenox on Thursday.
