NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Delaney Hayden scored 13 points Saturday to lead the Drury girls basketball team to a 62-33 win over Mohawk Trail in the first round of the Division 5 State Tournament.

Ashlyn Hayden and Eva Moser each scored 10 points for the Blue Devils, who got off to a quick start, outscoring their visitors, 20-6, in the first quarter.

“After such a long layoff, there’s always some concern about rust,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “We probably didn’t shoot it as well from the outside as we normally do, but I thought we were active defensively and really made Mohawk work for everything.”

Drury did most of its offensive damage inside the 3-point arc.

“Offensively, you’re going to have nights when shots don’t fall, so to still score 62 points with only three made 3-pointers and seven free throws says a lot about how well we executed our offense and pushed the tempo,” Downey said. I was very happy with that.”

Lily Mirante scored eight, and 10 different Blue Devils put a mark in the scorebook.

Top-seeded Drury (17-5) will host No. 16 Ware on Monday in the Round of 16.
