Champney Leads Hornets in Opener
CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Aiden Champney scored 11 points Friday to lead the McCann Tech girls basketball team to a 33-24 win over Hampden Charter in its season opener.
"We were a little bit cold on offense but our defense was solid and we are trying to make that our identity anyway so it was nice to see the defense hold solid on an night when our offense was not exactly where we'd like it," McCann Tech coach Justin Kratz said. "The offense will come with time and more practice though. The girls played hard defensively holding them to five points in the second and fourth quarters.
"Aiden Champney played an awesome all around game rebounding, defending, and leading the team in scoring."
Emmalie Wood scored nine, and Riley Guiden and Faith Brazeau added four points apiece in the defensive struggle.
McCann Tech (1-0) is off until it faces Westfield Tech next Friday.
