McCann Tech Girls Take First Loss
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Audrey Amaral scored 20 points Friday to lead the St. Mary’s girls basketball team to a 41-30 win over McCann Tech.
The Saints jumped on top early in handing the Hornets their first loss of the season.
“We knew we needed to focus on their scorer Audrey Amaral, and she scored 15 in the first half,” McCann Tech coach Justin Kratz said. “We weren't focused and energetic on defense and turned the ball over way too much. It was a good learning experience for our girls in terms of developing good habits as a program and figuring out how to prep and focus for a tough road game ... something will continue to work on learning.
“I was super proud of the girls for not giving up though. We fought very hard in the second half and did not quit... we held them to one free throw in the third and won the second half 23-8 as our defensive intensity picked up and we made a serious run at them to try and come back but the hole was just too big.”
Madison Rougeau scored 11 points to lead McCann Tech, which got seven from Alexis Lemanski and six from Aiden Champney.
The Hornets (6-1) are home on Monday in a rematch against St. Mary’s.
