Hornets Wrap Up League Title
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Faith Bazeau scored 16 points to lead three Hornets in double figures as the McCann Tech girls basketball team Monday beat Commerce, 58-54, to secure the Tri-County South Championship.
Alexis Lemanski and Emmalie Wood each scored 10 as the Hornets scored their season high in their regular season finale.
“The girls have come so far this year and to finish it off with a league championship is well deserved with all the hard work they put in this season,” McCann Tech coach Justin Kratz said. “I'm super proud of this group of young ladies for all their work. The emphasis we've been putting on hunting the right basketball play all year really shined through tonight.
“Aiden Champney went out with an injury early in the game. She's our captain that all the kids look up to and she is so instrumental in how we play. So it was also great to see the team keep their composure and come through with the win. In true Aiden style she was right on the bench rooting her team on through the whole rest of the game.”
McCann Tech (15-2) learns its next opponent on Tuesday when the Western Massachusetts Class C Tournament and non-qualifier games are finalized.
