DOUGLAS, Mass. – Ninth-grader Lily Denomme scored 19 points Friday to lead the Douglas girls basketball team to a 40-21 win over McCann Tech in the Division 5 State Tournament.

Third-seeded Douglas jumped out to a 31-6 lead at half-time.

“Our girls defended hard all night long but Douglas just had too many offensive weapons combined with really good ball movement,” McCann Tech coach Justin Kratz said. “The girls have nothing to hang their heads about as they played hard, defended, and competed all night long.”

Faith Brazeau scored seven, and Gabriella Lefevre added six for the Hornets (17-5) in their season finale.

“Overall, a great season for the girls especially after enduring a couple really difficult seasons prior,” Kratz said. “Can't say enough about our seniors Mackenzie Miranda-Ruiz, Ava Kratz, Faith Brazeau, and Aiden Champney for the commitment they showed to the program of the last four years.  It wasn't always easy to stay with it when we were losing so much but they did and went out on a great note this season.”

Douglas moves on to host Norfolk Aggie on Tuesday in the Round of 16.
