NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Haley Parker led all players with 12 points and led the Southwick girls basketball team to a 48-29 win over McCann Tech on Monday night.

Parker scored eight of her 12 points in the third quarter, stretching the lead for the Rams, who were only up six at the half but went to the third quarter with a 37-19 margin.

Allie Gibeau led McCann Tech (1-1) team with six points.

The Hornets had trouble beating the press, driving them into unforced turnovers all game long.

“They scored six baskets off of seven turnovers right in a row,” McCann coach Mike Dowling said. ”You turn the ball over and the other team scores and all the sudden the lead goes from eight to 18 in the matter of four minutes.”

The Hornets kept it close at half even with all the turnovers in the first half only trailing by six, but Southwick’s defense proved to be the game changer in the second half.

McCann will look to bounce back in their next game on the road against Smith Academy next Monday.
