TURNERS FALLS, Mass. – Emma Goewey scored 15 points Friday to lead the Mount Everett girls basketball team to a 54-29 win over Bay State Academy in the consolation game of the Eagles Holiday Classic at Franklin Tech.

Maggy Sarnacki scored 13, and Hudah Ngoy Nkulu added 12 as the Eagles overcame a slow start and evened their record at 1-1.

“The girls came out a little flat to start the game but once the second quarter started, we picked up our intensity on the defensive end which led to some fast break buckets,” Mount Everett coach Josh King said. “The girls did a better job of taking care of the basketball, but we have some work still to do as the season progresses.

“I was happy with how we played overall and look ready for league play starting next week with Lee.”

After trailing, 9-8, after one quarter, Mount Everett outscored Bay State, 20-5, in the second quarter. Sarnacki and Goewey each scored six in the period.

Sylvie Baker scored 23 of Bay State’s 29 points.
