South Hadley Hands Hoosac Girls Season's First Loss

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Mia Kelly led the South Hadley (5-0) Tigers to a 46-40 win over the Hoosac Valley (4-1) Hurricanes in the final of the Hoosac Valley Holiday Tournament Friday night. 
 
Kelly not only was an impact on the offensive end scoring, but also dishing out assists. Her pressure defense also helped spark a number of turnovers. 
 
Tournament MVP Sophie Gatzounas had 12 points while Mikhalia Edge added 10. 
 
South Hadley came out of the gates firing as the Tigers started the game on a 6-0 run. Their full court pressure gave Hoosac some trouble early on speeding them up into difficult shots. Hoosac Valley was able to end the quarter on a good note leaving the score all tied up at 12 apiece.
 
In the second quarter, the Hurricanes found themselves in some trouble unable to find the basket for a good portion of the quarter. South Hadley held them to just two points giving them a 19-14 lead at the break.
 
South Hadley once again come out of the break clicking with Edge scoring six points of her own in the quarter. South Hadley got their biggest lead of the game going into the fourth quarter up 12 points. 
 
The Hurricanes would not give up as they went on a few little runs in the quarter cutting the deficit to 6 points on a couple of occasions including the final score. 
 
South Hadley will look to continue their perfect season on the road against Athol on Friday night. As for Hoosac Valley (4-1), it will take on Granby Tuesday on the road.
