DALTON, Mass. – Madison McCarthy made five 3-pointers and scored 27 points on Wednesday to lead the Wahconah girls basketball team to a 58-40 win over Chicopee.

But Wahconah’s biggest points of the night may have come in the first quarter, when senior Olivia Gamberoni scored her first points of the game.

Gamberoni, who averaged 18 points per game and led Wahconah to the Division 4 State Championship last year, missed most of her senior year with an injury that also kept her out of soccer this fall.

On Wednesday, she made a field goal to put her name in the scorebook on Senior NIght.

Wahconah took control of the game in the second quarter, when it used 3-pointers from McCarthy, Olivia Roberts and Samantha Kaley to outscore the Pacers, 15-8 and take a 28-20 lead into the locker room.

Anna Doyle finished with eight points. Olivia Mason scored six.

Wahconah (14-4) waits to hear its opponent in the quarter-finals of next week’s Western Massachusetts Class B Tournament.
