Pittsfield Girls Rout Taconic
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Pittsfield girls basketball team started Friday as the No. 1 ranked team in Division 3 in the latest MIAA in-season power rankings and ended it with a dominating performance against its city rival at the Boys and Girls Club.
Harolyn Castillo scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Pittsfield to a 77-30 win in front of a big crowd in the first half of a girls-boys double-header.
Kyana Summers just missed a double-double – really a triple-double – scoring 12 points to go with nine rebounds and eight assists before moving to the bench with the rest of Pittsfield’s seniors midway through the third quarter.
Bre’jai Ellerbee scored 10 points, and Caprese Conyers finished with nine rebounds and eight assists as Pittsfield earned its fourth straight win.
A 20-4 run that spanned the first and second quarters took any drama out of the game, ending with two straight buckets by Summers to give the Generals a 32-6 lead.
Taconic got nine points apiece from Melanie Hamilton and Jalana Smith. Evaniece O’Neil grabbed 10 rebounds, and Toni Ahoussi had nine boards and a block for the Thunder.
Taconic (2-15) hosts Wahconah on Saturday morning.
Pittsfield (13-4) goes to Longmeadow on Monday.
