Something new, something old, and something colorful.
The awards given out at Downtown Pittsfield Inc.'s annual meeting this year represented a range of what has been happening in the downtown, whether that be the efforts of those behind Berkshire Pride Festival which brings nearly a thousand people to the common or Carr Hardware's 90 years of business to the First Friday Arts Walk that continually drives foot traffic.
Fast-forward three years later and The Media Stick wins "Best Marketing Effort" at the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla. It was one of only three honors awarded at the Inventors Spotlight, hosted by the United Inventors Association.
On Monday, Carr Hardware did what it said it would do - donate its recent prize winnings toward building a splash pad at Clapp Park.
The local company has won the "Indie Award" as small business of the year from the business organization Independent We Stand. The prize includes $5,000 cash, which Carr Hardware opted to go toward a splash pad project in partnership with the city of the Rotary Club.

And in turn, the splash park project for Clapp Park is a winner. Carr Hardware won the "Indie Award" from the business organization and the local company pledged to donate the $5,000 cash prize to Rotary's efforts to build a new splash park.
North Adams has been selected to receive 1Berkshires' 2017 Putting the Berkshires on the Map award in recognition of the substantial contribution that the community has made to the economy of the Berkshires.
This recognition will be presented at the seventh annual Celebrate the Berkshires event on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m. at Bloom Meadows in Hancock.
