IS183, Art School of the Berkshires, is offering two opportunities to work with watercolor teacher Patricia Hogan this May. Hogan, a resident of Great Barrington, is an accomplished watercolor artist whose work has been included in a number of juried art shows, including the prestigious North East Watercolor Society's 26th Annual International Exhibition. Her watercolors have been exhibited throughout the Berkshires and nationally, and are in private collections in the United States, England and Sweden. She holds a bachelor's degree in Art Education and has been teaching watercolor classes at IS183 for over a decade. Beginning Friday, May 2, Hogan will lead a watercolor class focusing on spring flowers. The class runs on Friday afternoons from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, May 2nd through May 30th, with no class being held May 9th. Students will work in IS183's Painting & Drawing studio and will focus on careful observation and good composition to create luminous, crisp, graceful studies. Tuition is $120, plus a $15 materials fee, and the class is open to all levels, with some watercolor experience helpful. The weekend of May 17 & 18, Hogan is offering a weekend workshop on watercolor and the figure, which runs from 10 am to 4 pm both days. Working from live models, students will learn to interpret the figure in watercolor. The workshop will begin with gesture drawings and proceed to longer poses with color where the figure will be suggested with shapes of light and shadow. Students will practice mixing rich flesh tones, incorporating backgrounds, and linking shapes. Tuition for the workshop is $180, plus a $30 model fee, and is open to all levels. For more information or to register, please call 413-298-5252 x100 or visit their website at www.is183.org. Needs-based tuition assistance is available in the form of work exchange opportunities and partial scholarships. In addition scholarships are available specifically for K-12 teachers. All classes are held at IS183's historic schoolhouse home in Stockbridge, located at 13 Willard Hill Road, off Route 183 via Trask Lane. IS183, Art School of the Berkshires, is a community-based, not-for-profit art school offering classes, workshops, artist talks, gallery exhibitions and other arts programming year round in the studios of its historic landmark home in Stockbridge.
