Faculty duo to perform at Berkshire Music School

Berkshire Music School faculty members, Laura Chapple, cello, and Linda Chacholiades, piano, will perform at the School’s Edgar B. Taft Recital Hall on December 11 at 7 pm. Laura Chapple was appointed to the Berkshire Music School faculty in 2002. Ms. Chapple holds degrees from the University of Reading (UK), the Royal Northern College of Music (UK), Northern Illinois University, and is currently a candidate for the D.M.A. degree at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Her teachers include Yehuda Hanani, Marc Johnson, and Margaret Moncrieff, and she has studied with Peter Ounjian, Lorand Fenyves, Lawrence Lesser and members of Vermeer, Tokyo, and La Salle Quartets. Ms. Chapple has performed throughout Europe and North America. Linda P. Chacholiades was appointed to the Berkshire Music School Faculty in 2002. Ms. Chacholiades studied at the University of Georgia, Mozarteum Conservatory, Salzburg, Austria, and holds a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She studied piano with Jerome Rose, Evgeny Rivkin, Anita Pontremoli, and Daniel Shapiro. Ms. Chacholiades has performed in several piano competitions, including the 1998 Gerschefski Competition where she was awarded honorable mention. She became a finalist in both the 2001 Greek Women’s University Club Music Competition, Chicago, and in the 2001 Ludmilla Knezkova-Hussey International Piano Competition, Bathurst, Canada. Ms. Chacholiades is a faculty member at Berkshire Community College. The concert program will include Piano Sonata in E-flat major by Haydn, Sonata for Violoncello and Keyboard in D major by J.S. Bach, Suite for Unaccompanied Cello by Michael Berkeley, and Sonata for Violoncello and Piano in E minor by Brahms. Admission fee for this concert is $5 for adults and free for students of age 18 and under. Berkshire Music School is located at 30 Wendell Avenue in Pittsfield. Lanesborough Fifth-Graders Win Snowplow Name Contest

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — One of the snowplows for Highway District 1 has a new name: "The Blizzard Boss."
 
The name comes from teacher Gina Wagner's fifth-grade class at Lanesborough Elementary School. 
 
The state Department of Transportation announced the winners of the fourth annual "Name A Snowplow" contest on Monday. 
 
The department received entries from public elementary and middle school classrooms across the commonwealth to name the 12 MassDOT snowplows that will be in service during the 2025/2026 winter season. 
 
The purpose of the contest is to celebrate the snow and ice season and to recognize the hard work and dedication shown by public works employees and contractors during winter operations. 
 
"Thank you to all of the students who participated. Your creativity allows us to highlight to all, the importance of the work performed by our workforce," said  interim MassDOT Secretary Phil Eng.  
 
"Our workforce takes pride as they clear snow and ice, keeping our roads safe during adverse weather events for all that need to travel. ?To our contest winners and participants, know that you have added some fun to the serious take of operating plows. ?I'm proud of the skill and dedication from our crews and thank the public of the shared responsibility to slow down, give plows space and put safety first every time there is a winter weather event."
