MCLA recognizes employees during "Giving Thanks" event

NORTH ADAMS - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts held its 3rd Annual Giving Thanks event on November 16, during which employees were recognized for milestones in their years of service. The reception honored those who have worked at the institution for 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years of service as well as recognized all employees for their daily dedication to the College. President Mary K. Grant and Marilyn Truskowski, director of Human Resources, commended the employees for their hard work and dedication on behalf of students. Those honored included: 35 Years of Service Jerry Smosky - Professor and Chair of Biology Department. Smosky, a tenured professor, also serves as the coordinator of the medical technology program and has been instrumental in the expansion of the biology curriculum. His primary areas of specialty are genetics and evolution. Carl Wolf - Professor of Physics. Also a full professor with tenure, Wolf is dedicated to physics research, delivering papers to conferences throughout the country and world. In addition to physics, Wolf enjoys writing poetry, having written two books. 30 Years of Service Jim May - Professor and Chair of the Psychology Department. May, a tenured professor, serves as chair of the Institutional Review Board and was instrumental in establishing the Faculty Forum Series as well as several programs for professional development in the area of technology. He has a broad background in social and personality psychology. 25 Years of Service Ben Kahn, Professor of Economics within the MCLA Department of Business Administration-Economics. A tenured professor, Kahn works closely with students and has served on numerous institutional governance committees. He has also published widely on research pertaining to economic statistics. 20 Years of Service Sumi Colligan, Professor of Sociology John Greenbush, Facilities Thomas Degray, Facilities Andrew Hoar, Theatre Janice Dzbenski, Public Safety Elaine Hoar, Biology Dept. Deborah Forgea, Bursar's Office Edward Miano, Professor of Business George Galli, Facilities 15 Years of Service Denise Brown, Facilities Richard Pothier, Public Safety Eric Burdick, Facilities Sylvia Proud, Library Fred Ferris, Facilities Marilyn Truskowski, Human Resources Elizabeth Manns, Mail Room-Copy Center 10 Years of Service Annette Allen, Education/Computer Science Nettie Joy, Facilities Diane Collins, Student Government Assoc. Janice Messer, Alumni & Development Rita Janeczek, Counseling Judy Ozolins, Student Affairs Additionally, four Faculty members were honored with awards at the Giving Thanks event. The co-recipients of the Faculty Curriculum Development Award include Deb Foss who proposed a Tier II creative arts course entitled: Myth, Media, & Madness and Graziana Ramsden who was honored for her proposal of a Major in Spanish. David Langston received the Faculty Lecture Award for his essay entitled, The Jessica Lynch Story: A Twice-Told Tale. Additionally, Maria Bartini won the Faculty Research/Creative Project Award for her work on Relational and Overt Aggression in Adolescence: An Analysis of Self-Report and Peer.

Friends of Great Barrington Libraries Holiday Book Sale

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Friends of Great Barrington Libraries invite the community to shop their annual Holiday Good-as-New Book Sale, happening now through the end of the year at the Mason Library, 231 Main Street. 
 
With hundreds of curated gently used books to choose from—fiction, nonfiction, children's favorites, gift-quality selections, cookbooks, and more—it's the perfect local stop for holiday gifting.
 
This year's sale is an addition to the Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce's Holiday Stroll on this Saturday, Dec. 13, 3–8 PM. Visitors can swing by the Mason Library for early parking, browse the sale until 3:00 PM, then meet Pete the Cat on the front lawn before heading downtown for the Stroll's shopping, music, and festive eats.
 
Can't make the Holiday Stroll? The book sale is open during regular Mason Library hours throughout December.
 
Proceeds support free library programming and events for all ages.
