Mac-Haydn Theatre auditions scheduled

Chatham, NY — Auditions for The Mac-Haydn Theatre 2005 summer season will be held on March 13 and April 2. These auditions are for assorted positions with the noted professional theatre: company members for a full summer of intense, exciting theatre work, performers to job in for specific roles, and people to enhance the ensemble in main stage and children’s theatre shows; as well as young people for apprentice and intern programs and children for the shows needing younger performers. With an all musical season, Mac-Haydn looks for excellent voices, and for singers who dance, dancers who sing, and character actors. Company members do ensemble work, fill smaller roles, and also play featured or leading roles throughout the season. In 2004 some roles played by company members included Frederic in “Pirates of Penzance”, Frank in “Showboat”, Tulsa in “Gypsy” and Magnolia in “Showboat”. The Mac-Haydn Theatre is considered an excellent credit and experience for upcoming performers. The auditions will be held at the Methodist Church on Kinderhook Street in Chatham. Adults (13 years old and older) will be seen Sunday, March 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., and children (12 years of age and under) on Saturday, April 2, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. All auditionees should bring a picture and resume, and be prepared with a song, preferably from a classic or traditional musical, and have music in your key. An accompanist will be provided. Depending on the number of those auditioning, it is possible that only 16 bars of a song will be heard. Adults should also prepare a light or comedic monologue, under one minute in length. There will be a short, simple dance call for everyone. The 2005 season will include: “Nuncrackers, The Student Prince, Carousel, 42nd Street, La Cage aux Folles, Barry Manilow’s Copacabana and Brigadoon”. Those auditioning should be aware that if chosen to be in a show it will mean a large time commitment, as rehearsals take place during the day and evening. Shows rehearse for the two weeks preceding the performances; there are 15 performances of each show, with one weekday and two weekend matinees and either four or five evening performances each week. To get to the Methodist Church: go to the North end of Main Street (Route 66) in Chatham, by the traffic circle. Kinderhook Street is between the Blue Plate Restaurant and Our Daily Bread Café. There is some on-street parking, also space may be available in the lot by the Reformed Church, the lot at the bank, and by Dollar General store on Main Street.
