Singer/songwriter Aimee Mann will perform at The Egg along with Ben Lee on Wednesday, June 8th at 7:30 PM. Aimee Mann songs have a literary quality to them -- sharp, spare short stories set to music.
Her sonically complex and lyrically intimate music has made her one of the most celebrated of today's singer/songwriters.
Aimee Mann emerged on the contemporary music scene in the 1980s leading the post-new wave pop group, Til Tuesday. After releasing three albums with the group, Ms. Mann embarked on a solo career, releasing the album Whatever, a more introspective, folk-tinged effort than her work with Til Tuesday. Upon its release, critics were praising her songwriting, as were peers like Elvis Costello, Difford and Tilbrook, and Andy Partridge.
Early in 1995, Ms. Mann had a modest hit with "That's Just What You Are," a song included on the soundtrack to the television series, Melrose Place. Her second album, I'm With Stupid followed in 1996. Ms. Mann's major breakthrough came when she released her soundtrack for the critically acclaimed film Magnolia; the song "Save Me" was later nominated for an Academy Award.
This was followed by the release of Bachelor No. 2, Lost in Space, and a live CD/DVD package recorded during a tour from the Summer of 2004. Her new album, The Forgotten Arm, released in May of 2005, tells the story of John and Caroline as they meet, fall in love and road trip across America.
The concert will be opened by Ben Lee who began his career as a teenager in Australia, with the rock band Noise Addict. He relocated to the United States to pursue his solo career, releasing four albums, including the recent Awake is the New Sleep.
Ticket for the concert are $26 and are available at The Egg Box Office - 518-473-1845 - and all Ticketmaster locations. This concert is sponsored by Time Warner Cable.
