Colonial Theatre Announces New Officers

Gary Scarafoni has been elected as Colonial Theatre Board President to complete the term of his predecessor Howell Palmer which will expire in May 2006. Scarafoni has been a Colonial Theatre Board Member since September 2001 and is retired President of First Agricultural National Bank (now Banknorth) in Pittsfield, MA. Scarafoni resides in Pittsfield, MA. Volunteer Affiliations include: Director, Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Pittsfield; Director, Downtown Inc.; Member, Development Committee, Downtown Inc.; Corporator, Berkshire Health Systems; 32 years as a Campaign Volunteer, Berkshire United Way; Member, Colonial Theatre’s Campaign Leadership Team. Michael MacDonald has been elected as Colonial Theatre Board Vice President, succeeding Gary Scarafoni. MacDonald has been a Colonial Theatre Board Member since September 2001 and has been a partner at Cain, Hibbard, Myers & Cook, P.C. in Pittsfield, MA since 1986. MacDonald resides in Windsor, MA. Volunteer Affiliations include: President, Downtown, Inc.; President, Downtown Investment Company; Member, Planning Board of the Town of Windsor; Board Member and Clerk, Berkshire Chamber of Commerce; Co-Chair, Colonial Theatre’s Building Committee. Robert Becker has been elected as Colonial Theatre Board Treasurer succeeding Alan E. Bauman. Becker has been a Colonial Theatre Board Member since February 2003 and currently serves as Partner of Flowers & Becker, LLP Certified Public Accountants, a New York City CPA firm. Becker has been a part-time resident of the Berkshires for the past 20 years. Volunteer Affiliations include: Treasurer, 203 East 72nd Street Corporation; performed the duties of President, Vice President, Secretary and Member of both the Executive and Finance Committees for the Tempo Group Inc., a community and school based substance abuse clinic on Long Island; Past Vice President, Financial Officer and Member, of the Lawrence, NY School District Board of Education; Member, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Member, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Sharon L. Harrison continues her term as Clerk of the Board. Harrison has been a Colonial Theatre Board Member since April 2001 and is President of Lightning Strikes Marketing & Consulting Firm; she is also an adjunct professor at Berkshire Community College. The Colonial Theatre is currently in the construction phase of an historic restoration with an expected opening in 2006. The first phase of a Capital Fund Drive is nearing completion and the Partnership phase of the community fundraising will soon be underway.

Lanesborough Fifth-Graders Win Snowplow Name Contest

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — One of the snowplows for Highway District 1 has a new name: "The Blizzard Boss."
 
The name comes from teacher Gina Wagner's fifth-grade class at Lanesborough Elementary School. 
 
The state Department of Transportation announced the winners of the fourth annual "Name A Snowplow" contest on Monday. 
 
The department received entries from public elementary and middle school classrooms across the commonwealth to name the 12 MassDOT snowplows that will be in service during the 2025/2026 winter season. 
 
The purpose of the contest is to celebrate the snow and ice season and to recognize the hard work and dedication shown by public works employees and contractors during winter operations. 
 
"Thank you to all of the students who participated. Your creativity allows us to highlight to all, the importance of the work performed by our workforce," said  interim MassDOT Secretary Phil Eng.  
 
"Our workforce takes pride as they clear snow and ice, keeping our roads safe during adverse weather events for all that need to travel. ?To our contest winners and participants, know that you have added some fun to the serious take of operating plows. ?I'm proud of the skill and dedication from our crews and thank the public of the shared responsibility to slow down, give plows space and put safety first every time there is a winter weather event."
