The BCC Players will perform “Macbeth†on November 17, 18, & 19 at 8pm, and November 19 & 20 at 2pm in the Robert Boland Theatre at Berkshire Community College.
To this day Macbeth remains one of Shakespeare’s most popular tragedies. It is the playwright’s shortest play, but arguably his most intense. Macbeth is the story of a warrior who must struggle with fate and his own ambition. He betrays and murders his king, rending the fabric of his society and damning himself and his wife, who is an accomplice in the murder.
Having achieved power through assassination, he finds that in order to hold on to it, he must engage in an escalating cycle of violence, betrayal and murder. The “butcher and his fiend-like queen†are among the most intriguing villains in stage history. Shakespeare masterfully combines greed, murder, and lust with a supernatural dimension to create a deliciously dark experience.
The cast and crew of Macbeth are excited to be working on this unique production. It will incorporate puppetry within the live action as well as sword combat and a real waterfall. This will be the first time in over 25 years that the BCC Players have performed a play by William Shakespeare. It is the first production directed by new BCC Theatre faculty Dr. Michael O’Brien.
Cast members include Chris Montemagni as the Macbeth, Matt MacArevey as Macduff, Stephanie Watroba as Lady Macbeth, Matthew Coviello as King Duncan, Jeffrey Benham as the Banquo, Aaron Thompson as the Malcolm, and Jessica Goodchild as the mother. Matt MacArevey serves as the set designer, Tim Clark as sound designer, with Christopher Gregory as lighting designer and technical director
Tickets for the performances may be reserved by calling the BCC Players Box Office at 413-499-0886. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students, seniors and BCC staff.
