Mount Greylock Names 2014 Recipient of Superintendent's Award

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mount Greylock Regional High school senior Aaron Ziemer has been selected as this year's Mount Greylock recipient of the Certificate of Academic Excellence from the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents.
Superintendent Rose Ellis selected Ziemer for the award and will present it to him during the Jan. 21 School Committee Meeting, taking place at 6 p.m. Ellis commended Ziemer for his "tenacious pursuit of excellence during [his] high school career."
"This award recognizes not only Aaron's academic success, but also his leadership qualities and strong school spirit," Ellis said.
Ziemer is the treasurer, parliamentarian, and technical coordinator for the Massachusetts State Junior Classical League, the Student Council vice president, the photo editor of the school newspaper The Echo, a member of the garden club and co-president of the youth environmental squad. He has a black belt in karate and has served as the lighting designer for 10 theatrical productions at Mount Greylock in his years as a student there.
"It's a great honor to receive this award," Ziemer said. "I am excited that the administration cares about the work students do at Mount Greylock, and I hope awards like these can be expanded to recognize the many other students who do amazing things here every day."
Ziemer hopes to attend Deep Springs College, an alternative college in California.
The criteria for the Certificate of Academic Excellence include a distinguished three-year cumulative grade-point average, membership in the top 10 percent of seniors, recommendation by a faculty member, and final selection by the superintendent.
