PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Nomination papers for municipal office will be available beginning Friday in the city clerk's office.

Up for election will be City Council seats in all seven wards and four at-large seats for two-year terms. Also on the ballot are the six School Committee seats and the city clerk, all for two-year terms.

The mayor is a four-year term and will not be on the ballot until the 2023 election.

Wards 2, 3 and 4 will have new representation after this election as all three seats are open. Ward 2's Kevin Morandi, Ward 3's Nicholas Caccamo and Ward 4's Chris Connell have all stated they will not run for re-election.

Incumbents are Helen Moon in Ward 1, Patrick Kavey in Ward 5, Dina Guiel Lampiasi in Ward 6 and Anthony Maffuccio in Ward 7. Nominees are required to have the signatures of 50 registered voters who live in their ward.

A-large seats are currently held by Yuki Cohen, Peter Marchetti, Earl G. Persip III and Peter White. Nominees need 150 signatures of registered voters in the city.

Current School Committee members are Mark Brazeau, William Cameron, Daniel Elias, Alison McGee, Dennis Powell and Katherine Yon. These offices also require 150 signatures of registered voters, as does the nomination for city clerk currently held by Michele Benjamin.

The last day to submit nomination papers to the registrar of voters is Friday, July 16, and to the city clerk, Friday, July 30. If there is a preliminary election — more than twice the number of candidates per office qualify — it will be held Sept. 20. The regular election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Dalton Select Board Argues Over Sidewalk Article

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
DALTON, Mass. — A heated discussion concerning sidewalks during Monday night's Select Board meeting resulted in the acting chair calling a recess to cool the situation.

The debate stemmed from the two articles on the town meeting warrant for May 6 at 7 p.m. at Wahconah Regional High School.

One proposes purchasing a sidewalk paver for $64,000 so sidewalks can be paved or repaired for less money, but they will use asphalt rather than concrete. The other would amend the town's bylaws to mandate the use of concrete for all future sidewalks.

The article on concrete sidewalks was added to the warrant through a citizen petition led by resident Todd Logan.

The board was determining whether to recommend the article when member John Boyle took the conversation in a new direction by addressing how the petition was brought about.

"I just have a comment about this whole procedure. I'm very disappointed in the fact that you [Logan] have been working, lobbying various groups and implementing this plan and filed this petition six weeks ago. You never had any respect for the Select Board and …" Boyle said.

Before Boyle could finish his statement, which was directed to Logan, who was in the audience, Chair Joe Diver called point of order via Zoom.
