Dalton Fire Department Responds to Injured Hiker

DALTON, Mass. — Firefighters helped rescue a woman who fell 25 feet off a ledge on Tuesday night. 
 
The Fire Department responded at about 7:30 p.m. to a report of an injured hiker in the area of Mountain Drive. 
 
Dalton paramedics requested air medical transport and the Western Mass Technical Rescue Team because of the steep terrain. 
 
Firefighters began extracting the injured person while Pittsfield Engine 3 established a landing zone. Dalton Ambulance transported the patient to a medical helicopter that landed in a park off Dalton Division Road. 
 
LifeFlight transported the patient to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for "traumatic injuries." 
 
The patient was listed in stable condition. 
 
Cheshire Fire Department provided coverage for the town while Dalton firefighters worked on the rescue operation.
