Adams Mass. — Adams Free Library launches "Find Your Voice!" summer reading program on June 20.

During the next two months the library will host a range of free activities for children, teens, and adults to encourage and support a love of reading.  Participants can win prizes for reaching their goals and are encouraged to log reading online via Beanstack and will earn raffle tickets at certain reading milestones for a prize.

Raffle prizes are provided by the Friends of the Adams Free Library. The deadline for logging books is Friday, August 11. Winning tickets will be drawn after the end of the program and announced on August 17. Patrons are to log only the books they start and complete between June 20 and Aug. 11.

Beginning June 20, readers may visit www.adamslibraryma.beanstack.org to create an account or use an existing one, sign-up for the reading challenge of their choice, and begin logging. Although "Find Your Voice!" is an overall theme for the program, children may read whatever they choose and sign up any time.

Find Your Voice! is sponsored by the Adams Free Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Cultural Council of Northern Berkshire, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Additional funding provided by the Friends of the Adams Free Library.

Library events are free and open to the public. An adult must accompany children under 8 years of age. Attendance at library programs constitutes consent to be photographed; photos may be used in print or electronic publicity for the Adams Free Library.

Cheshire Festival of Trees on View Until Dec. 31

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff

Businesses, nonprofits, schools and town departments provided trees for the display that reflected their missions or services.
CHESHIRE, Mass. — There is still time to experience the festive atmosphere of the Community House.

The moment you step into the town offices, you're greeted by the scent of fresh pine wafting from about 70 beautifully decorated trees on display.

The town's festival of trees will be on display Monday through Thursday from 10 to 4, Friday and Saturday from 10 to 8, and Sunday from 10 to 5 until Dec. 31. The building will be closed Dec. 24 and 25.

The idea started four years ago with Department of Public Works Director Corey McGrath's vision to display a decorated, lighted tree in all 13 windows of the Community House, the former Cheshire School.

A large part of it was to bring the community back into the building that was a mess five years ago, he said.

The purpose of the building is in its name — a community pillar housing the town offices and Youth Center Inc., and a community hub featuring activities from dancing, craft fairs, wrestling, and more.

Since its establishment, the display has grown into the festival it is today featuring raffles, a Christmas village, nutcrackers, and, of course, trees.
