PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire County Historical Society and Berkshire Natural Resources Council are teaming up for a free, family-friendly snowshoe event at Herman Melville's historic home and farm, Arrowhead on Feb. 22, 11 am.
This easy walk includes an introduction to the site and brief history of Herman Melville's life there, as well as a scavenger hunt. Participants will learn about Melville's sleigh rides and decide for themselves if Mt. Greylock really looks like a white whale.
Following the hike free hot chocolate will be available in the museum shop.
Bring water, wear sturdy footwear, and wear layers. Consider bringing snowshoes or microspikes, if you have them. BNRC has pairs of both to loan if needed. Part of the Pittsfield 10x10 Upstreet Arts Festival.
