Local High School Athletes Compete at Bay State Games

The busiest weekend of the six-week Bay State Games summer sports festival is this weekend with a couple of Berkshire County high school student-athletes in the mix.

On the volleyball court, Mount Greylock rising junior Tyanna Lepicier and Taconic High sophomore Mollie Crawford are playing on the West team that hits the court on Saturday morning in Fitchburg.

Meanwhile, Monument Mountain senior Isaac Hartshorn will be in Fitchburg competing at 190 pounds in the Bay State Games wrestling tournament.

On Thursday afternoon, play wrapped up in the BSG softball tournament. Lenox senior Lilly MacDonald competed on the West team that beat Northeast, 6-5, in Thursday's bronze medal game.

Earlier this month, the county was represented on the baseball diamond by Mount Greylock's Emery Rotter and Mount Everett's Noah Inthirath, who helped the West team to a Bay State Games gold medal. The West went 4-0 in round robin play and beat Northeast, 4-1, in the tournament final.

Williamstown Child Dies in Collision with Motor Vehicle

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A 7-year-old Williamstown child died Friday evening after a collision with a motor vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and Buxton Hill Road, the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office announced on Saturday morning.

Neither the child nor the driver were identified in the release. The child, Max Rothschild of Williamstown, was formally identified by the DA's Office on Monday. The driver has not been identified and the incident remains under investigation.

The vehicle was traveling east on Main Street, and the child, riding a bicycle, was headed down Buxton Hill Road toward Main, according to the DA.

"Preliminary information suggests that the bicyclist unintentionally entered Main Street where they were struck by the involved vehicle," the news release read.

The child died at the scene of the accident, the news release said.

"The driver of the vehicle was not impaired by alcohol or drugs," the news release said. "The bicyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision."

The investigation remains active.
