Berkshire Historical Hosts Talk on Crane Paper

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m., the Berkshire County Historical welcomes Dennis Croughwell, a fourth-generation Crane employee and Crane Museum of Papermaking museum educator, who will present "Crane Paper: A Legacy in Every Sheet."
The talk highlights the history of Crane papermaking in the Berkshires and beyond, from its origins in rag-based handmade paper production to modern machine manufacturing. Croughwell will share stories of papermaking from Crane paper connections to the American Revolution to the hidden features in modern currency paper, including Crane's role in producing secure paper for United States currency.

To accompany the talk, The Crane Museum of Papermaking will offer free papermaking demonstrations, hands on papermaking (100 percent cotton paper and wildflower seed paper) and a Crane paper sale from noon to 3 on Sunday, Aug.16, Monday Aug. 17, Thursday Aug. 20 and Friday, Aug. 21.
