Helping People by Helping Pets: It's a Win-Win

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — For more than 90 years, Haddad Subaru has participated in community events and contributed to charitable causes in and around Pittsfield. As a company that understands and appreciates the role that pets play in our lives, they also focus on animal-related causes. This is a value shared by the Subaru corporation itself, which sponsors local and national programs that benefit dogs, cats, and even wildlife through its Subaru Loves Pets initiative, which is part of the overall Subaru Love Promise vision
of positively impacting the world through showing love, respect, and support with every interaction.
Haddad Subaru has regularly been recognized with the Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment Award. As part of their effort to make the world a better place through actions that help both people and animals, the dealership recently presented a check for $10,000 to the Berkshire Humane Society. According to the society, even a small donation can make a big impact in the lives of these animals, as the following examples show:
- $10 – helps pay for cleaning supplies for one week.
- $35 – covers all vaccinations for one shelter animal.
- $50 – pays for the spaying or neutering of one, dog, cat, or rabbit waiting to be adopted.
- $100 – provides food and litter for the cats at Purradise for one week.
- $250 – allows one deserving child to attend Camp Humane.
- $500 – provides veterinary care for shelter animals with special needs through the Ken Freeburg Fund.
- $1,000 – covers all costs of an animal in the SafePet Program for one month.
Donations help in other ways, too. The Berkshire Humane Society operates a Pet Food Bank that works to provide food to people who are going through difficult times and cannot afford to properly feed their pets. These animals can include birds and small
mammals as well as dogs and cats, and donations to the food bank help all of them. Knowing their animals are well fed can take a load of the minds of our Berkshire neighbors who are going through tough times. To illustrate how widespread this issue is,
the Berkshire Humane Society gets 800 to 900 requests for pet-food assistance each year. Besides cash, the society accepts canned dog and cat food, kitty litter, and bags of pet food (sealed or open).
