BCC to Hold Annual Harvest Run on Sept. 26

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC)'s annual Harvest Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 26. The event includes a 5K trail run and a one-mile Kids Fun Run, plus fun activities for the whole family.

Registration for the 5K is $25 in advance, $30 on race day, and free for runners under age 18. To register, visit www.berkshirecc.edu/harvestrun. All other events are free.

Schedule of events

10 a.m.: Community 5K Race

10 a.m. – noon:

Costume contest, with a theme of botanical gardens — dress as your favorite tree, plant or flower!
Integritus Healthcare Cook-Off Competition, with plenty of delicious samples
Health and Wellness Fair with BCC, including massage, blood pressure checks, pulmonary function testing with a “test your lung power” station, balance and stretching activities, and more
Kids activities, games and crafts

10:45 a.m.: Free one-mile Kids Fun Run

11:30 a.m.: Awards Ceremony (5K, Kids Run, Best Costumes and Integritus Food Awards)

Race packets can be picked up on Friday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Berkshire Running Center, located in the Allendale Shopping Center (downstairs) at 5 Cheshire Road, Pittsfield. On race day, packets can be picked up at BCC's Paterson Field House?Complex.

Recognition will be given for top runners in various age groups, and prizes will be awarded for runners with the best costumes. Tech shirts, available in men's and women's sizes, will be given to all registered 5K runners. Shirt sizes are not guaranteed.???

Proceeds from the event benefit BCC's Nursing & Allied Health programs and students.

Teacher of the Month: Nickole Halvorsen

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — For many students, kindergarten is their first experience in a school setting and the beginning of ongoing growth and change throughout their lives.

Kindergarten teacher Nickole Halvorsen strives to instill in her students the foundational academic and social-emotional skills they need to succeed not only in her classroom, but throughout their educational journey and beyond.

It is this dedication, along with the fun, safe and welcoming environment that students describe her as cultivating, that has earned her the iBerkshires.com Teacher of the Month designation.

The end of the year was bittersweet for Halvorsen and her students as they said goodbye to Morningside Community School, which closed its doors for the final time in May.

"Now at the end of the year, it gets sad and a little more emotional, especially this year because this is our last year at Morningside," she said during her interview in May.

So, really focusing on coming in, being here, being present [and] consistent for them matters the most for me, and they make me want to be here. I want to have fun with them. I want to enjoy every last bit we can of being in the school building."
