Lanesborough Posts Town Administrator Job
LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Select Board officially announced the town administrator's position is open and looking for candidates after current administrator Gina Dario submitted her resignation.
Dario has worked for Lanesborough since late 2022, when she was hired as town administrator.
She was recently hired as Adams' Community Development director and will replace Donna Cesan, the retired director who stepped in last year to temporarily fill the vacant spot.
At Monday's meeting Dario said she had met with Cesan after seeing the job posting and told her about some of her work. Dario is also a native to Adams and wanted to go back home.
"She had spoken about some of the projects there that really interested me. I'm originally from Adams, and so I thought about taking a slightly different role. I really enjoyed Lanesborough. It's really been a really amazing experience to be here, and I suppose I thought it might be great to apply some of the skills and experience that I learned here, but in a more, I suppose, contained capacity behind some very concrete projects and working in a community where I was raised."
Dario founded the community development committee over three years ago and said she had imagined that was something that might lead as a director in another town. She hopes to bring the same impact she had with working in Lanesborough to Adams, saying her current role has helped her gain some of the skills needed.
"Something I really enjoy about the role that I've had here is project management, community engagement, working with government policy and project management and really working on projects that improve the lives of community members of the community," she said, adding she would "hopefully bring more life into the positive initiatives that are already happening in Adams, which are very exciting things like the [Greylock] Glen and the theater and some of the businesses that are already getting a lot of positive feedback and energy. So very excited about that."
At Monday's meeting, Dario said the job has been posted, and recommended the board have an initial analysis of candidates before its meeting on Sept. 8 and put on the agenda the forming of a screening committee and follow the next steps in the hiring process.
"I certainly loved my time in Lanesborough. I always hope to stay very connected with the community here, and certainly feel a commitment to what we've achieved, and have loved working with staff at Town Hall and the select board, and we'll always feel closely connected, and we'll stay in touch," she said.
Before her work in Lanesborough, Dario was a former state manager with the Australian Electoral Commission in Perth, Western Australia, and before that, she worked as an assistant commissioner with the Australian Electoral Commission in Canberra, the country's capital.
She grew up in the Berkshires before attending Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley and obtaining a master's degree in international public affairs from Columbia University in New York City.
Dario will start her position in Adams on Oct. 26.
