Drury Boys Beat Burr & Burton
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Justin Girard scored 16 points to lead the Drury High School boys to a 52-50 win over Manchester, Vt.'s, Burr & Burton in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League on Thursday night.
Cam Lesure scored nine for the Blue Devils.
For the Bulldogs, Connor Harrington scored 15 with 10 rebounds, and Will Tate and Cody Gilbert each scored eight.
Mount Anthony if Bennington, Vt., defeated Mount Greylock, 47-39, in Wednesday's other game.
Henry Salem scored 10, and Ty Champagne added nine for the Bulldogs.
Mount Greylock's Jake Benzinger had a game-high 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Jesse DiLego scored seven.
Williamstown Cal Ripken Stars Win Opener at States
SUTTON, Mass. -- The Williamstown 10-under Cal Ripken all-stars battled back from a 4-0 deficit to take an 11-4 win from defending state champion Frontier in Williamstown's first game at the state tournament on Saturday.
Landen Jamula struck out five and gave up three earned runs before getting an inning of 1-2-3 relief from Jake Cangelosi.
Thomas Martin went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Oscar Lowe went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Frontier jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Williamstown roared back with eight runs in a second inning that saw 14 batters came to the plate. Martin capped the rally with a two-out, two-run single.
Williamstown was scheduled to meet Hudson on Saturday afternoon in pool play. The tournament, which also features Lee, continues through Tuesday.
Bird Leads Drury to Summer League Win
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hayden Bird scored 18 points to lead the Drury boys to a 45-38 win over Hoosac Valley at the Armory on Wednesday in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.
Kareen Becket scored nine points with 11 rebounds.
For Hoosac, Jameson Coughlan led the way with eight points and seven boards.
In Open division play, Mingo's/Greylock Bowl & Golf defeated Berkshires Finest, 63-60.
Kollin Allard led all scorers with 26 points for the winners. Pranam Lipinski scored 12, and Kevin Shaker chipped in with 11.
Eric Schibi scored 19 points with 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks for Berkshires Finest. Joe Wiggins and Steffon Charles scored 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Steinman Leads Teddy's Pizza to Giorgi League Win
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hollie Steinman scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked a shot to lead Teddy's Pizza to a 43-34 win over Tony's Electric/Flynn & Dagnoli on Tuesday night in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.
Kim Conant scored eight points and had seven boards for the victors.
For Tony's, Courtney McLaughlin scored a team-high 15, and Courtney Kegresse scored eight with four rebounds.
In Tuesday's first game, Emily Rosse scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots to lead Williamstown Physical Therapy to a 64-41 win over the Lady Patriots.
Megan Vaughn and Alia Curry each scored 13 for WPT.
The Patriots were led by Brianna Legacy with 14 points and Kayla Whitman with eight.
