CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The temporary committee of the Stamford/Clarksburg Community Watch has decided to postpone the next meeting to Feb. 20, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This will allow our team to go over the information that is brought back from the Crime Watch Meeting in Washington, D.C., at the end of this month. We are postponing this meeting so that the next big meeting can be full of informative handouts that will help make this Crime Watch group a success.
The response to join the volunteer committee has been poor. We need a few individuals to participate in order to make this a successful.

The crime watch began this past fall after a number of break-ins in the towns of Clarksburg and Stamford, Vt.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A Cobbleview Road residence was broken into late Wednesday afternoon as police were investigating an earlier burglary on the same road.
Police were at the first residence at about 5 p.m. when a neighbor reported the motion lights coming on at another Cobbleview Road home. As officers approached the residence, they heard what sounded like a person running from the area into the woods. A search was conducted by second-shift officers, including Officer Michael Ziemba and Blue, and North Adams Police officers but no suspect was found.
The house had been forcibly entered and property stolen. The state police Crimes Services Section was contacted to assist in the investigation.
Williamstown Police are asking residents to be alert to unusual or suspicious vehicles and to contact the police at 413-458-5733 to report any suspicious activity.

Volunteers help set meeting dates/locations and attend community and committee meetings, promote meetings and raise awareness, make and distribute fliers, sign-up for e-mail alerts, organize meetings and set the agenda, contribute ideas for the group's success, type minutes, organize refreshments/food, help design Web site sections and additions, come to meetings early to set up chairs and tables, etc.
Sign-up to do as much or as little as you can. We appreciate any and all residents who are willing to help.

Morningside Initiative's Crime Prevention and Public Safety subcommittee will offer Neighborhood Watch updates and presentations from the Pittsfield Police Department on identifying drug and gang activity.
The meeting will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Morningside Community School cafeteria at 100 Burbank St., Pittsfield.
This meeting is for people who live, work or own property in the Morningside Initiative area and who want to participate in neighborhood watches and learn more about making our neighborhoods safer. Presentations will focus on identifying drug and gang activities. All area residents and business members are encouraged to attend.
The Morningside Initiative area includes East street from Park Square, up North Street to Springside ave, to Benedict Road, to Tyler Street Extension, to Woodlawn Avenue, Kellogg Street to Fourth Street around Silver Lake Boulevard, back to East Street and returning to Park Square.
We held our second Stamford/Clarksburg Crime Watch meeting. Clarksburg Police Chief Michael Williams addressed the group of 20 serious and committed residents. Great information was given out about the latest confirmed break-in/burglary on East Road in Clarksburg that occurred yesterday (Friday, Dec. 11).
Members are getting more organized and the next Community Watch meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. at the Stamford, Vt.) School. We expect a big turnout at the next meeting, because attendees said they were committed to making their community aware and getting involved. Signs will be posted at Billmont's Country Store in Stamford and the Clarksburg Town Hall. All newspapers will be contacted as well as all the schools.
The meeting agenda included a review of key points raised at the first meeting; a handout on how to form a neighborhood watch; a request for volunteers; information on a reward related to a Clarksburg break-in and a handout on suspicious behavior and activity; and an update on the new Web site, www.TownCrimeWatch.com, from which 10 e-mail alerts have been sent since the first meeting.
