Firth, Spartans Beat Wahconah in Offensive Shootout

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Iris Firth had a hat trick Saturday to lead the Monument Mountain girls soccer team to a 5-3 win over Wahconah in the Spartans’ regular season finale.
 
Kathryn Perrone opened the scoring for Wahconah in the  sixth minute, but Firth responded a minute later with an assist from Sophia Curletti.
 
Midway through the first half, Firth gave Monument Mountain the lead for good when she converted an assist from Mercedes Raifstanger to make it 2-1.
 
Raifstanger got on the board early in the second half.
 
Wahconah’s Elena Iovieno answered to get her team within a goal at 3-2.
 
But Firth finished her hat trick, and Annette Boyko added an insurance goal to push the margin to three goals midway through the second.
 
In the 68th minute, Iovieno set up Dani Barry, who finished to complete the scoring.
 
Wahconah (3-12) finishes the regular season at home on Monday against Agawam.
 
Monument Mountain (13-3) waits to learn its quarter-final opponent in the Western Massachusetts Class B tournament.
