WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Celina Savage and Julia DeChaine combined for 24 kills Thursday as the Mount Greylock volleyball team swept KIPP Academy in the first round of the Division 5 State Tournament.

Savage recorded a team-high 15 kills in the 25-13, 25-7, 25-18 win.

DeChaine had three aces to go with her nine kills. Kylie Sweren collected nine aces in the first two sets, and Emily Alvarez served six aces.

“Mount Greylock faced a formidable hitter and blocker from Kipp Academy who could jump so high her head was above the net,” Mounties coach Greg Geyer said. “The team adapted its defense and offense during the first set, then cruised in the second.

“After some service errors by Greylock in the third set, the team settled down and scored seven of the last eight points in what was a close set until the end.”

Top-seeded Mount Greylock (21-0) will be home in the Round of 16 against No. 17 Douglas (8-11), which advanced on Thursday with a 3-2 win over Southbridge. The date of that match is to be announced.
