Taconic Wrestlers Win Western Mass Title

SOUTHWICK, Mass. -- Isiah Williams won an individual title Saturday to lead the Taconic High wrestling team to a Western Mass championship at Southwick High School.
 
Taconic finished with 172.5 points to beat runner-up Granby, who earned 159.5 points.
 
Mount Greylock's Alex Griffis took an individual title to help the Mounties finish fourth in the team standings. Monument Mountain came in 10th.
 
The evening featured an all-Berkshire County championship match at 152 pounds, where top-seeded Williams of Taconic pinned No. 3 Cayman Mead of Mount Greylock, 2 minutes, 37 seconds into the match.
 
At 113 pounds, No. 1-seeded Eli Jones of Monument Mountain fell to No. 2 Christian Garcias-Nieves of Sabis, 9-4.
 
At 138, top-seeded Mason Papirio of Taconic lost to Hampden Charter's No. 2-seeded Gabe Johnson, 7-5.
 
At 160, in a rematch of the final at this month's Mountie Invitational, Hampshire Tech's Brandon Weyant, seeded first, defeated Mount Greylock's second-seeded Devin Pelletier, 5-1.
 
At 195, Mount Greylock's Griffis, seeded first, defeated Dean Tech's Luis Breton, 6-2.
 
Mount Greylock's Hunter Abriel, who was seeded third at 285, was pinned by Franklin Tech's top-seeded Kane Rich at the 3:56 mark.
