TURNERS FALLS, Mass. – Paige Hutkowski scored 20 points Friday to lead the St. Mary’s girls basketball team to a 27-25 win over Mount Everett in the consolation game of the Eagles Holiday Classic at Franklin Tech.

Hutkowski scored all six of her team’s points in the fourth quarter, when the Saints outscored the Eagles, 6-5, to hold on for the win.

“It's not for lack of effort, hustle, or heart, we just came up short tonight,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “The girls continued to play really hard and at the end we just ran out of gas. I'm proud of the effort and leadership the older players are demonstrating on the court and have been impressed with how the younger players have stepped up and shown poise and potential.”

Emily Steuernagle scored 16 points for the Eagles, who got seven from Makayla Carpenter.

Mount Everett (0-2) goes to Granby on Thursday.
