Earl E. Carmel Jr., 91

HINSDALE, Mass. — Earl Edward Carmel Jr., 91, of Nashua, N.H., formerly of Hinsdale, Mass., died Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua. 

Born in Pittsfield on August 17, 1925, the son of Earl E. Carmel, Sr. and Ruth Sherman Carmel, he attended schools in Hinsdale and graduated from Pittsfield High School. He was a World War II veteran, where is was involved in the European Theater and was Honorably discharged. 

A mink rancher by profession, Mr. Carmel owned and operated Carmel's Mink Ranch in Hinsdale for 65 years. He mentored many young people at the ranch helping then with a good foundation with good work ethics . He was also active on both national and state-wide ranching committees. At one time, Mr. Carmel worked for General Electric Company, and had been in business with his brother in the operation of a service station in Hinsdale. 

Mr. Carmel was Chairman of the Hinsdale Planning Board for several years. He enjoyed traveling and trapping. 

Mr. Carmel leaves his wife of 66 years, the former Jeanne B. Freshler, whom he married September 2, 1950; a daughter, Cynthia Taylor of Merrimack, N.H.; a son, Craig Carmel of Dalton; two brothers, Louis Carmel and his wife, Pauline, of Hinsdale, and Norman Carmel and his wife, Evelyn, of Dalton; and his three grandchildren, Daniel E. Carmel, Ivy L. Carmel, and  Nichole Kennedy.

Funeral notice: Funeral services for Earl E. Carmel Jr., will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Dery-Foley Funeral Home in Dalton with Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor of St. Agnes Church in Dalton and St. Patrick Church in Hinsdale, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 9 a.m. 

Burial will be in the Spring in St. Patrick's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Shriners Hospital or to the Craneville activity center in Dalton, both in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
