MONTEREY, Mass. — David Marco Ibáñez, 20, left this world Monday, April 24, 2017, after struggling with the repercussions of his brain injuries. 

He was born on December 9, 1996, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He graduated from Mount Everett High School in Sheffield and was applying to colleges, where he was planning on studying psychology so he could help others.

David loved cooking, baking, reading science fiction, snowboarding, playing hockey, and hiking. One of his favorite activities was to climb the hills of Berkshire County to see the sunrise and reflect on life. He will always be remembered for his independent spirit, his unshakeable loyalty and empathy, and above all his disarming smile that made everybody feel special.

He is survived by his mother, Valerie Zantay; his father, Jesús Ibáñez; his two brothers, Gabriel Ibáñez and Joshua Z. Ibáñez; his numerous extended family in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, the Bahamas and Spain; and his dog Tuukka.

Funeral notice: A memorial ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017, in the Allen Theater of Berkshire School at 245 North Undermountain Road, Sheffield.
