Blanche R. Walden, 99

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Blanche Rita (Robert) Landry Walden, 99, of North Adams, Mass., died on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Williamstown Commons.
She was born in North Adams, Mass., on March 1, 1918, a daughter to the late Augustin and Laura (Delisle) Robert. She attended schools in North Adams including Notre Dame and then Drury High School. She was employed at Peggy Parker Clothing Store for 15 years and before that at Sprague Electric in Research and Development. In her early years she was employed at Robert’s Company and England Bros.
Mrs. Walden was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She was a member of Le Cercle Francais for 40 years. She was the founder of the first Girl Scout Troop at Notre Dame and was very active in the organization of the Sisterhood Tea. Blanche was an avid golfer belonging to Waubeeka Golf Club, North Adams Country Club and Stamford Golf Club. She also spent time at the Senior Center in North Adams and many hours volunteering at the North Adams Regional Hospital.
Blanche married her first husband, Albert William Landry, in 1939. He died in 1984. She married her second husband, Martin H. Walden, in 1990. He died in 2010.
Survivors include her son, Albert “Chip” Landry and his wife, Paula, of Adams; two grandchildren, Courtney Crane and Jesse Landry; five great-grandchildren, Jadin, Haley, Austin, Nate and Arya; and two brothers, William Robert of Troy, N.Y., and Norman Robert of Williamstown.
She was predeceased by a brother, Valmore.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Blanche Walden will be celebrated Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at 11a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday, May 8, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall Street, North Adams, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
