Frances M. ‘Gigi’ Schneyer, 95

GLENDALE, Mass. — Frances M. "Gigi" Schneyer, 95, of Willow Street in Glendale, Mass., died Tuesday morning, May 30, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center following a short illness.

Frances lived in Glendale for 76 years. She was born on June 17, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Mable Anthony Hatch. She attended schools in Pittsfield and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School class of 1939.

Frances worked in several jobs over the years, including catering, housekeeping and working in the kitchen at Monument Mountain Regional High School.

She was a member of the Glendale Women’s Auxiliary and actively worked on the campaign to bring the Norman Rockwell Museum to Glendale.

She was married on December 28, 1940, at the First Congregational Church in Stockbridge to her husband, William A. "Bumpie" Schneyer, who predeceased her in 2003. She was also predeceased by her brothers Robert Hatch, Charles Hatch and her sister-in-law Carolyn O’Brien.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Bell and her husband Lawrence of Glendale; her son, Peter Schneyer and his wife Lisa of Glendale; two granddaughters, Candace Bell Fitzpatrick of Glendale and Susan Bell and her husband David Sparks of Longmeadow; one grandson, Peter Schneyer Jr. of Sheffield; two great-granddaughters, Annie Provost of Glendale and Avery Sparks of Longmeadow; one great-grandson Asher Sparks of Longmeadow; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Frances will be greatly missed by her loving family.  She enjoyed spending time with them and we were blessed to have her with us for 95 years. A huge thank you to all the staff of Unit 1 at Laurel Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation for taking care of her for the past seven months.

Funeral notice: There will be no calling hours. The funeral for Frances Schneyer will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. Jill Graham.  Burial will follow at the Stockbridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made the Lee Ambulance Squad or the Glendale Women’s Auxiliary through Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
