Emma E. Blair, 94

HANCOCK, Mass. — Emma Elizabeth (Whitman) Blair, 94, of Hancock, Mass., died on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Williamstown Commons.

She was born on September 18, 1923, in Hancock, daughter of the late Perry & Ruth (Graham) Whitman. She attended Hancock Schools, and graduated from New Lebanon Central High School.

Emma worked at Elwel Pines in Williamstown and at the Springs Restaurant. She also assisted in operations at the Blair Farm. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church and their Dorcas Society, where she taught Sunday School and was part of the Strawberry Festival for many years. Her apricot-filled cookies and nut cups where always high on everyone's list at the bake sale. She was an active member of the American League Auxiliary and the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department "Sirens." As a member she was an integral part of many Memorial Day Parade Lunches and Community Christmas events. She was also for many years ballot clear at Hancock elections.

Emma enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading and especially bowling in the women's league in New Lebanon.

She married Robert Grey Blair Sr. on June 20, 1941. He died in May of 2014.

Emma leaves one daughter, Norma Quimby of Hancock, Mass.; one son, Robert G. Blair Jr. of Northwood, N.H.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Perry G. and Donald Whitman of Hancock.

She was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Southard of Hancock, Mass.; and three brothers, Hollis, Robert and William.

Funeral notice: A memorial service for Emma Blair will take place at Second Congregational Church, Williamstown on a later date. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to the "General Fund" at Second Congregational Church in care of the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
