Donald F. Gaffey, 84

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Donald F. Gaffey, 84, of North Adams, Mass., died on Friday, September 29, 2017, at North Adams Commons. 

He was born in North Adams, Mass., on October 5, 1932, a son of the late Patrick Henry Gaffey and Florence Mary (Veilleux) Gaffey. He graduated from St. Joseph Parochial Grammar & High School in North Adams. He was employed as the owner and operator of Gaffey’s Getty Mart in North Adams. He also worked for Pho-Tech, Williams College, and Gateway Chevrolet Car Dealership, where he worked in the sales department. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi.

Donald was an avid sports fan, routing for the NY Giants, NY Yankees, Notre Dame Football, Boston Celtics and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

His first wife was Marlyn (Anderson) Gaffey. She died in 1971. He was also the widower of second wife June (Garrison) Gaffey, whom he married June 2, 1972. She died on October 31, 2013.

Survivors include a daughter Donna J. Poulton of Adams, Mass.; sons Jeffrey F. Gaffey and his companion Peg Robare of North Adams, Randy J. Walden and his wife LuAnn of Los Gatos, Calif., and John R. Walden and his wife Pamela of Plattsmouth, Neb.; grandchildren Rebecca Poulton, Marlyn Gaffey, and Jamie Gaffey and his wife Sarah; great-grandchildren Ella and Alivia Gaffey; brothers William Gaffey of North Adams, James Gaffey of the state of Florida, John Gaffey of Clarksburg and Robert Gaffey of North Adams; and sister Florence Del Signore of Pittsfield. 

He was predeceased by his brother, Cpl. Patrick J. Gaffey, who was killed in Korea on August 8, 1950, while serving in the US Army; and his sister, Mary Pellerin.

Funeral notice: Private funeral service to celebrate the life of Donald Gaffey will be private at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Donations in his memory can be made to PopCares through the funeral home.
