Susan A. Bristol, 67

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Susan Ann (LaCasse) Bristol passed away on December 18, 2017, due to complications from cancer, a battle she fought with strength and stubbornness until the very end.

She was born on March 23, 1950, in Pittsfield, Mass., to Erwin and Marilyn (Phillips) LaCasse, her devoted parents throughout. She was raised in and lived in Lanesborough for most of her life. Susan went to Lanesborough schools and graduated from Mt. Greylock Regional High School in 1968. She worked hard to support her family and served on the town School Committee for many years.

She was proudest of her role as a mother and grandmother to the joys of her life - her two daughters and her four grandchildren. Watching them grow for as long as humanly possible was most important to her. She was the oldest of eight siblings, all of whom she loved. She was known by friends and family as fun, outspoken and loyal. She made good friends everywhere she went in life and she enjoyed her later years in Florida. Her spunk will be missed.

She is survived by her parents, Erwin and Marilyn LaCasse of Brewster, Mass.; her daughter Colleen Dobbert of North Adams, Mass.; her daughter and son-in-law Erika Bristol and Michael Danahy of Brunswick, Maine; her grandchildren Rebecca Richards and her husband Ryan of North Adams, Daniel Dobbert III of North Adams, and William and Greta Danahy; her seven siblings, Keith LaCasse, Dennis LaCasse, Gary LaCasse, Diane Newton, Paul LaCasse, Brian LaCasse, and Marcia Field, and their spouses; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral notice: Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield. A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please hug your loved ones tight, be kind to others, and consider a donation to the MS Society or American Cancer Society in Susan's memory. Her family can't thank enough the caring staff at Williamstown Commons, BMC's Oncology team, and Hospicecare of the Berkshires.

Recollections & Sympathy For the Family

I remember Sue’s incredible energy and bright smile4b. I think Sacha met Erika in 7th grade, when Williamstown and Lanesborough also met for the first time. Probably meeting through X-Country skiing. You could see right away that Sue was going to be one of those moms who would be involved. Her bright smile and energy was infectious. Always supportive. And her pride and love for Erika was written all over that bright smile! A warm hug to all.

My very first girl friend in 8th grade. Two lovely daughters went through Lanesborough Elem. Sch where I worked. Sue was my “boss” for years working on the Sch. Comm. Wonderful person. Dearly Missed.

My Most Sincere Sympathies to the Lacasse family! As neighbors growing up, we shared a kindred spirit as the eldest of 2 of the largest families in Lanesborough. It was a friendship that lasted 56 years! Through all the pain & heartbreak that she endured for so many years, she remained one of the most upbeat persons I’ve know. She was a perfect fit to be a high school cheerleader, and that quality showed throughout her life. Thanks for the Memories Sweet Sue!
