BENNINGTON, Vt. — William E. Hurley, 74, a resident of Bennington, Vt., passed away unexpectedly February 25, 2018, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

William was born in Bennington on April 9, 1943, the son of the late Edward William Hurley and Anna June Boothman. William received his early education in various schools throughout the Northeast, eventually moving back to Bennington, where he was a graduate of Bennington High School. William was a machinist and worked for Eveready and Tansitor in Bennington and Lovejoy in Hoosick Falls.

William was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bennington, enjoyed traveling with his wife Kathy and spending time with his family. In earlier years William enjoyed playing many sports, excelling in basketball. He loved to hunt and take long rides through the country. He was an animal lover, and he and Kathy shared their home with many faithful companions.

William is survived by his wife Kathleen (Kathy) Grikstas Hurley of Bennington; children Dean A. Hurley and his wife Terri and Darin M. Hurley and his wife Abigail, all of Bennington, and Kimberly Webster and her husband Tom of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; grandchildren Cole, Evan and Brianna; and many stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, with whom he shared many memories throughout his life.

Funeral notice: Funeral services for William will be held Friday, March 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, Vt. Interment will be at a future date chosen by the family. There are no visiting hours.
