John J. DeMarco, 91

POWNAL, Vt. — John Joseph DeMarco, 91, formerly of Pownal, Vermont, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, in Manchester, Maine. 

He was born in North Adams on March 15, 1927, a son of the late Giuseppe and Antoinette (Mondero) DeMarco. John attended schools in North Adams. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, serving with the United States Navy. John was employed for over 37 years at the General Electric Co. in Pittsfield as a machinist. 

He was a communicant of St's Patrick & Raphael Parish in Williamstown and a member of the Williamstown VFW.

His wife Dorothy (Danaher) DeMarco R.N, whom he married September 4, 1950, died January 30, 2007. 

Survivors include two daughters, MaryAnne D. Ponti and her husband Michael of Manchester, Maine, and Donna Dupras of Adams.; two grandsons, John Michael Ponti and Nicholas Danaher Ponti; two great-grandchildren, Alessandra Rayne Ponti and Luca Michael Ponti; and several nieces and nephews. 

John predeceased by two brothers and four sisters: Toni and Carmen DeMarco, Evelyn Sherman, Josephine Greenbush, Lucy Darling and Rose Bard.

Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for John DeMarco will be celebrated Monday, April 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St.’s Patrick and Raphael Parish in Williamstown. Burial with military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. 

Calling hours are Monday from 9 to 10:30 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, Mass. Memorial donations are suggested for Shriners Hospital for Children through the funeral home.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a lively neighbor and I have missed his wry jokes and hearing him express his joy and pride for you all- daughters and grandchildren. He adored your Mom and truly missed her company when she passed. My thoughts will be with you all.
