Joseph 'Yogi' DelSoldato, 87

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Joseph "Yogi" DelSoldato, 87, a longtime resident of State Line Road in West Stockbridge, passed away late Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield with his family by his side.

A native and lifelong resident, he was born at the family home in West Stockbridge on July 30, 1932, the son of Joseph and Mary Morandi DelSoldato. He was educated in local schools before starting work at the former Toby Lime plant in West Stockbridge. He then went on to Lee Lime in Lee, Mass., where he would remain for 49 years until his retirement in 1997.

Besides being an avid hunter Joseph, enjoyed horse racing as well as bowling. He was also a pitch player, which was something that he took quite seriously.  

He spent many years coaching West Stockbridge Little League. Before games and practices, the kids could be seen piling into the station wagon for a ride to the field. 

Joseph is survived by his daughter, Darlene DelSoldato of Tybee, Ga.; three sons, Joseph DelSoldato and wife Julie of Danby, Vt., William DelSoldato and wife Sheila of Lee, Mass., and Mark DelSoldato of Pittsfield, Mass.; two sisters, Gloria Mintz of Sheffield, Mass., and Linda Kot of Sheffield, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Jerome, Joseph, Jesse, Michael, Sarah, Luke, Kyle and Brooke; and 10 great-grandchildren, Tamara, Hollis, Rhilynne, Jackson, Sawyer, Tallon, Evan, Makayla, Lillian and Anthony.

He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Lillian J. Verchot DelSoldato, on August 5, 2002.  The couple was married on October 11, 1952, at St. Patrick’s Church in West Stockbridge, Mass. He was also predeceased by his brother, Harry DelSoldato; and a grandson, Dante Straughn.

Funeral notice: As per his request, funeral services will be private at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barington, Mass. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the BMC 3rd and 4th Floor Nurse’s Sunshine Fund through Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
