Helen J. Leary

Helen J. Leary, 87, of North Plain Road died yesterday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Great Barrington on Sept. 2, 1914, daughter of Wright and Mary Touponce Seward, she attended local schools. Mrs. Leary was employed at the former Holden and Stone Department Store until her retirement in the early 1970s. She previously was employed by the former Ann Louise clothing store and the A&P market. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. Her husband, Bernard M. Leary, whom she married Oct. 5, 1946, died Nov. 25, 1992. She leaves a son, Bernard Leary of Great Barrington; two sisters, Margaret Bertelli of Great Barrington and Mary Scapin of Lee, and a grandson. She is predeceased by her husband, Bernard Leary; her brother, William Seward, and a sister, Irene Lord. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, with the Rev. William H. Wallis, pastor as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 24, from 4 until 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Contributions in Helen's memory may be made to the Fairview Hospital Nurses Education Fund through the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
