John S. Yelen

John S. "Lefty" Yelen, 85, formerly of Bostwick Gardens, died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield following a short illness. Born in Housatonic on May 24, 1916, son of Joseph and Antoinette Brunitska Yelen, he attended local schools. He was employed by the former Monument Mills. He also worked on the grounds crew at the former Barrington School Golf Course, now Searles Castle. He was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. He leaves a sister, Sophie Del Masto of Kimball Farms in Lenox. The funeral will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 7, at 10 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor of All Saints' Church, Housatonic. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 4 to 7 funeral home. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
